Can Campaign: Stand up to Bush’s Veto

Friday, October 05

"Put children first! Put children first!""Put children first! Put children first!"

That was our rallying cry Monday, as we gathered in front of the White House to protest President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

This popular, bipartisan legislation would help provide health coverage to millions of American kids whose parents work but can't afford to buy health insurance. But the President used the power of his pen to block this bill and deny these children the health care they need.

Whatever happened to compassionate conservatism?

We cannot sit back and let President Bush deny our nation's children the health care they need and deserve. Americans United for Change is part of an effort to get one million people to contact their members of Congress and tell them to override President Bush's veto. We only need a few more votes, and you can help make it happen.

Watch the video of Americans United for Change President Brad Woodhouse speaking at the "Rally for Children's Healthcare" at the White House, and then call your Representative to tell him or her to vote for children's healthcare and to override the President's veto:

President Bush vetoed children's health care because he says it's too expensive. The truth is, after spending half a trillion dollars in Iraq, and after asking Congress for $200 billion more for his failed policy there, President Bush is unwilling to take care of our urgent national priorities here at home -- like taking care of our children's health care needs. For the amount the President spends in just one week in Iraq, we could insure 800,000 kids for an entire year. 800,000!!

President Bush may not have his priorities straight, but the American people do. As Monday's rally at the White House showed, the State Children's Health Insurance Program has widespread support across the country and in Congress. But to override the President's veto we need to get a few more votes in the House.

Make that happen by calling your Representative and telling him or her to support the SCHIP bill and to vote to override the President's veto:

With your help, we can make sure President Bush doesn't have the final say on children's health care in the United States. Make the call -- nine million uninsured kids are counting on you:

I am an American and I want a change.
A change away from the left leaning view of organizations such as yours.  I want a change away from a left leaning Congress, whose approval rating is signifigantly lower than Pres. Bush’s.  I want a change away from the promotion of health care from the federal government.  It’s not their responsiblity to provide it.  Regardless of party, the government is notoriously bad at handling money.  Ever heard of $900 toilet seats? Ever heard of multi-generational welfare recipients? Ever heard of people having more children just to receive more welfare?  Raising taxes to pay for the beurocratic nightmare that healthcare administration will be, isn’t the answer.  The govenment can’t responsibly administer the money they have now, giving them more money isn’t going to miraculously cure their fiscal irresponsibility.  Obscuring the facts in your politically biased ads isn’t the answer either.
