Candlelight vigil calls on Senate Republicans to stop blocking Iraq vote

Wednesday, July 18

Last night, Senate Republicans blocking a vote on legislation to end the Iraq war got a powerful message from the American people and their Democratic members of Congress: Bring back democracy and bring home the troops.

At a somber candlelight vigil near the Capitol, hundreds of citizens joined dozens of Democratic lawmakers to demand Republicans stop blocking a vote on legislation to end the war – legislation supported by the vast majority of Americans.

Take a look at highlights from the vigil, featuring Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, U.S. Rep. and Iraq veteran Patrick Murphy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Carl Levin, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. John Lewis, Sen. Dick Durbin, and Sen. Patty Murray.

Around the country more than 150 similar events were held, as the American people demanded that President Bush's allies in the Senate stop blocking vote on the Iraq war. As the pressure to end the war builds, Republicans will soon have no choice but to listen.

I am ashamed of our Congress right now.
Your so called ” New Direction” is
not new at all. Americans wanted change when they voted you control
in the Senate Mr. Reid and Mrs Pelosi. You have the lowest approval rating in history. Lower than Mr Bush, and he’s got Iran on his shoulders. You folks are so out of touch with America and so self serving that you advertise on television to try and restore your
” image ” . Good luck with that.
As if that werent enough, yesterday Mr. Reid and Mr Specter go at each other on the floor. When will our elected officials stop the internal bickering and get our borders secure. When does that start?
Politicians are to much about Celebrity, and not enough about whats right for our country.

How low can the approval meter go ?

You politcal hacks are a disgrace. Congress is a disgrace. Democrats have destroyed congress and any credibility they ever had.

13% approval rating, 79% negative! Who pays to run this stupid site, idiots? Or just democrats, but that’s redundant.

Keep it up and keep putting these ridiculous ads on TV to remind voters what a bunch of incompetant, naive, terrorist supporting, soldier hating, big spending, tax raising, hatemongers congress really is.

I came here to make a statement, but Mike and Gary said it all. I couldn’t agree more. It is a shame that our elected officials do not realize that so many Americans have these same thoughts.
