“The Health Insurance Industry Profits Protection Act”

Thursday, November 05

Why don't Republicans just call their bill exactly what it is, “The Health Insurance Industry Profits Protection Act” of 2009.

Certainly health insurance is something we want to be available to all Americans, but I think we need to be careful with arguably unsound arguments directed towards those who are proposing an approach we disagree with.  Unfounded conclusions or accusations only hurt our position and subject us to easy attacks. Based on my own research, the accusations in this blog, specifically that the Republican’s plan “will still let insurers raise premiums four times faster than wages,” is based entirely on the assumption that the current trend will remain exactly the same, which in my opinion is lazy math. Has anyone had a chance to read the analysis of this conclusion at http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/ ? What are your thoughts?
Just to be clear, I am in no way endorsing the Republican plan, I’m just criticizing this blog’s conclusions and cautioning against unsubstantiated accusations which do nothing to persuade Americans who are still undecided on the issue, much less actually change someone’s mind.
