Coalition Takes Aim at Corporate Donors to Super PACs
Wall Street Journal - March 12, 2012
This year, wealthy Republican donors are fueling so-called super PACs with hefty checks that far exceed the legal limits on individual campaign donations. These donors are shelling out an increasingly larger share of the money spent on television ads and direct mail in the fight for the GOP presidential nomination. Those efforts will likely continue in the general election.
The coalition, which includes Common Cause, the Service Employees International Union, Americans United for Change and several similar groups, wanted to draw a line in the sand before companies and individuals closely linked with companies start writing checks for the general election.
