Liberal Groups Go After Three GOP Lawmakers in Ads
National Journal - November 18, 2011
Ahead of the Super Committee's deadline for a proposal to cut over $1 trillion from the federal budget, progressive groups are targeting three GOP lawmakers with ads warning them against voting to cut Medicare and Medicaid funding.
The ads -- purchased by the SEIU, Americans United for Change and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees -- will run this week in the home states of Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) and Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.), who is running for a Senate seat this year.
The ads will run on broadcast networks in Reno, Nev. and in Billings and Missoula, Mont., and on cable networks in Boston. The group did not release the cost of the ad buy.
The script for the ad against Heller follows (the others are the same, just with the names changed):
"If you vote to cut Medicare, Senator Heller, I will remember it every time I visit my doctor. I'll remember you cut Medicare and Medicaid every time I fill a prescription. I'll remember you cut Medicare if I fall down, or get hurt. I'll remember you chose protecting millionaires over protecting my health. My friends will remember it too -- all of them.
"Call Senator Heller. Tell him to protect Medicare and Medicaid."
