Scranton Times Tribune: Unions’ TV ad targets Barletta over debt-limit deal
Scranton Times Tribune - July 30, 2011
A coalition of two unions and a progressive/liberal group began airing television commercials Friday to pressure Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta into backing a debt-limit deal that can pass Congress.
The four days of commercials are part of a more than six-figure campaign targeting eight members of Congress across the country, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., one of the key negotiators in the deal.
The commercials are airing on WNEP-TV, WBRE-TV and WOLF-TV by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Service Employees International Union and Americans United for Change, an issues advocacy group, said Jeremy Funk, communications director for Americans United for Change. Mr. Funk declined to say exactly how much the groups are spending.
