Another Luntz Memo to Congress Republicans on How to Protect Special Interest From Obama Admin
Another Special Interest in the Obama Administration's Crosshairs and Another Luntz Memo to Congressional Republicans on How to Protect It
Huffington Post: ‘Frank Luntz Pens Memo To Kill Financial Regulatory Reform'
Washington DC - Americans United for Change called on Congressional Republicans and conservatives to take the high road and reject divisive and disingenuous message recommendations for killing President Obama's financial regulatory reform plan circulated by Republican pollster and Wall Street consultant Frank Luntz. News of the memo comes on the heels of the release of a new Americans United television ad airing in the nation's capital urging Congress to pass the President Obama's plan to hold Wall Street accountable and prevent another financial crisis.
As reported by Huffington Post: "Nine months after he penned a memo laying out the arguments for health care legislation's destruction, Republican message guru Frank Luntz has put together a playbook to help derail financial regulatory reform...In Republican circles Luntz's words, which have helped the party score win the message wars over health care and other legislative battles, are often treated as gospel."

Tom McMahon, Acting Executive Director, Americans United for Change: "Here we go again. Another special interest in the Obama Administration's crosshairs and another memo from Frank Luntz to Congressional Republicans on how to protect it. It wasn't long after the President proposed health insurance reform that Republicans were lining up to parrot Luntz's talking points on how to best stir up fear and confusion in the American people - all in hopes of derailing reform to protect insurance industry profits. And now as the President's proposal for holding Wall Street accountable moves through Congress, here comes highly paid Wall Street consultant Frank Luntz with a fresh set of talking points and the same old fear and smear tactics.
"The most breathtakingly dishonest talking point Luntz encourages Republicans to echo is "Stop the Big Bank Bailout Bill" - a patently absurd characterization for a proposal that will require bailed out banks to pay back every penny to the taxpayers and prevent big banks from creating another financial crisis in the future. Not to mention the fact that the big banks themselves are spending hundreds of millions to pay lobbyists to fight against any reform that would protect us from their abuses in the future, especially the creation of a strong, independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
"We encourage Congressional Republicans to take the high road during this debate and embrace reality given the Main Streets in their districts are in dire straights thanks to the greed and recklessness of big banks on Wall Street. Or they can choose to embrace Luntz's divisive rhetoric, look the other way and demand zero accountability from those who helped cause the financial crisis and cost us millions of jobs -- trying to take us back to the failed Bush economic policies of the last decade. It's a simple choice."
