As Health Law Turns 2, New Report Shows Benefits Americans Are Enjoying Today No Thanks to Republicans in Congress
On the 2nd anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, SEE THIS NEW REPORT on the millions of Americans benefiting today. It shows that if Republicans in Congress had had their way -- repealed the health law and put insurance companies back in charge -- today:
- 2.5 million young adults would not have coverage today under their parent’s plan.
- 5.1 million Medicare beneficiaries would have paid an average of $635 more for their prescription drugs and all beneficiaries would not have access to preventive services like free mammograms.
- Insurance companies would still be free today to deny care to sick kids simply by citing the soulless words “pre-existing condition.”
- Insurance companies would still be allowed to stick it to consumers with unreasonable premiums hikes of 10, 20 or even 30 percent without being held accountable.
And in 2014, the health law will outlaw insurance companies from treating being a woman as a pre-existing condition or discriminating against anyone with a “pre-existing condition” for that matter – but not if Republicans in Congress and Mitt Romney repeal the law and make legal again the worst insurance industry practices that have bankrupted American families for decades.
