Buckle up, America, because Republican House Leader John Boehner promises it’s going to be a bumpy ride if his party is back in the driver’s seat.  After green-lighting 8 years of failed conservative policies in the Bush era that drove the economy deep into the ditch, Boehner insists we haven’t seen anything yet.  From health care to Wall Street reform, the GOP leader intends to slam the breaks on any and all progress that has been made under this administration to pull the economy from the brink of depression.  Not stopping there, Boehner hopes to unravel progress made as far back as 70 yearsbyscaling back Social Security.

Wall Street: in the GOP Leader’s view, the culture of greed and recklessness on Wall Street that left 8 million Americans without jobs and evaporated $17 trillion in retirement savings and net worth, is a problem no bigger than the size of an “ant.”  It’s a blunt acknowledgment of the ant-sized appreciation Republican leaders have for the pain and suffering working Americans are still feeling in the wake of the meltdown on Wall Street.  But they no doubt have an elephant-sized appreciation for the amount of contributions pouring in from Wall Street lobbyists and CEO’s these days.

Social Security: in the same breathe the GOP Leader called the Democrat’s efforts to reform Wall Street a “nuclear weapon,” he promises to launch a nuclear bomb of his own on Social Security by slashing benefits, raising the retirement age, and for the first time ever, conducting means testing on seniors.  Such an assault on the safety net that has kept generations of seniors from poverty would make even George W. Bush blush.

Health Care: the GOP Leader says Americans shouldn’t get used to any of the welcome reforms under the new health care law, including the new ban on lifetime insurance caps, filling in the infamous ‘donut hole’ prescription drug coverage gap for seniors, allowing young adults under 26 to stay on their parents’ insurance plans, the new tax credits making health care more affordable for small businesses, and the sweeping new consumer protections from the worst insurance industry practices like dropping people when they get sick or denying coverage to those with “pre-existing conditions.”

Offshore drilling: the GOP leader thinks big oil hasn’t polluted our coastline enough, and if he had his way, big oil would have a free pass to drill wherever they pleased. ‘Drill, baby, drill’ isn’t just a slogan for Leader Boehner, it’s a centerpiece in his Party’s blueprint of failed, conservative priorities.
