How Old Are We? GOP Play Hooky From Committee Like Pouting Children

Washington D.C. – As Americans head to the polls across the country today to do their civic duty and vote, it seems as though Republicans on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee can’t be bothered to the same as almost all Republican Senators boycotted today’s mark up of significant climate change legislation.

Tom McMahon, Acting Executive Director, Americans United for Change: “Forget the ‘Party of NO’ – the GOP is now the Party of NO show.  Creating clean energy jobs and moving the country toward energy independence seem like goals worth getting out of bed for; apparently not for the Republican members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee who are playing hooky this week.   Of course, this kind of political gamesmanship is nothing new.  The boycott comes the day after the GOP announced their efforts to obstruct and delay health insurance reform until the bitter end. (see Roll Call:  ‘GOP Plots Strategy to Draw Out Health Debate’). Is it any wonder Americans identifying themselves as Republicans have dwindled from 21 to 17 percent since January? How low will this number go before Congressional Republicans start to take their jobs seriously?”
