Heather Wilson enabled Bush veto of key legislation to end the war in Iraq
Rep. Heather Wilson (NM-1) shares responsibility for President Bush's veto of legislation to bring an end to the war in Iraq, Continuing a Failed "Stay the Course" Policy
Heather Wilson Puts Loyalty to President Bush above Troops Caught in Civil War, above will of American public and above facts of the Ground
May 2, 2007 (Washington D.C.) - Americans United for Change issued the following statement today following last night's Presidential veto of the Iraq Accountability Act, historic legislation to begin safely and responsibly winding down the war in Iraq:"Heather Wilson is an enabler," said Jeremy Funk, spokesman for Americans United for Change. "Congresswoman Wilson's blind loyalty to President Bush has enabled him to veto legislation to begin safely and responsibly winding down the war in Iraq. Repeated votes from Wilson and her fellow Bush apologists in Congress in support of the President's failed ‘stay the course' policy in Iraq gave him all the cover he needed to keep our troops stuck firmly in the crosshairs of a bloody civil war which has no end in sight."
"With now 71 percent of Americans disapproving of the President's handling of the war in Iraq, there is no question that Heather Wilson continuing support for the war and President Bush's failed policy there is out of step with America - out of step with New Mexico - and out of step with reality."Americans United for Change launched a new TV ad campaign nationally on cable today featuring footage of the grim realities U.S. troops face in Iraq daily juxtaposed with footage of President Bush's infamous ‘mission accomplished' speech from May 1, 2003 when he declared major combat operations had ended in Iraq. The ad, entitled "Truth," tells President Bush, "You can veto a bill, but you can't veto the truth."

"May 1st marked the 4th anniversary of President Bush's infamous ‘mission accomplished' speech when he strutted around the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in a flight suit and declared the war in Iraq over. 4 years later -- nearly $400 billion spent -- over 32,000 American soldiers wounded -- over 3,200 American lives lost, and Heather Wilson is still standing with the President today without apology or question. That really says all you need to know about Congresswoman Wilson's values."
Americans United for Change recently launched a TV ad campaign in Albuquerque holding Heather Wilson to public account for her historic vote on March 23rd, 2007 against ending the war in Iraq. And just today, Rep. Wilson voted against ending the war in Iraq a third time. Click here to view ‘Accomplished'
Similar ads targeted John "Randy" Kuhl, Jr. (NY-29), Jim Walsh (NY-25), Tim Johnson (IL-15), Dean Heller (NV-02), Mary Bono (CA-45), Sen. John Sununu (R-NH), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and Senate Minority Leader and Obstructionist-in-Chief Mitch McConnell (R-KY). These ads were designed to persuade pro-Iraq war, Republican Members of Congress to change course and vote to end the war in Iraq, as the more of these Members are convinced to do the right thing by our troops -- the more likely President Bush will make significant concessions on his failed ‘stay the course' policy of open-ended permanent war in Iraq.
"Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans, major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed" - President George W. Bush, USS Abraham Lincoln, May 1, 2003
