Statement from Jeremy Funk, Comm. Director, Americans United for Change: “Just as we predicted, before President Obama even signed into law long-overdue health insurance reform today that is every bit as historic as the passage of Social Security and Medicare, Michele Bachmann had already introduced legislation in Congress to repeal it. While this is not at all surprising coming from someone who recently said future generations should be “weaned” off of Social Security and Medicare, Rep. Bachmann’s constituents might be very surprised to hear that she is leading efforts in Congress to stop 5,500 of them from getting coverage, to roll back a new ban on lifetime and annual insurance caps, to restore the infamous ‘donut hole’ prescription drug coverage gap for 80,000 seniors she represents, to kick 65,000 young adults in her district off their parents’ insurance plans, to take back the tax credits and other assistance to 134,000 families and 16,100 small businesses, to take the nation off a path towards reducing the deficit by $1.2 trillion, and to undo the sweeping new protections for all Minnesotans from the worst insurance industry practices like dropping them when they get sick.”
