Washington, DC –Americans United for Change launched a new ad campaign in Nevada thanking Senator Harry Reid for his leadership in steering the Wall Street reform bill, which holds big banks accountable for millions of Nevadans and Americans losing their jobs, through the Senate last week.  Wall Street used every weapon in their arsenal, millions in paid advertisements and millions more to send their army of lobbyists to the Capitol to try to kill the bill, but Harry Reid wouldn’t let that stop him. He stood with the majority of Americans who want to rein in the big banks. See script below for “Accountable,” which will begin airing on television today in Reno.

Tom McMahon, Executive Director, Americans United for Change: “Under Harry Reid’s leadership, the Senate pushed back against big banks and their hoards of lobbyists, standing with the 8 million Americans and Nevadans who lost their jobs and countless other Americans who lost their savings and pensions because of the irresponsible actions on Wall Street. Sen. Reid said no more, telling Wall Street it is no longer acceptable to gamble with our money, to take advantage of consumers for sport or to hide risky investments in the shadows.

“Thanks to Senator Reid, Nevadans will no longer be tricked on the mortgages they buy and lenders are prohibited from making loans that borrowers cannot repay.  Despite the foreclosure crisis in Nevada, Senator John Ensign and his Republicans colleagues failed to stand with those who are suffering on Main Street.  They’re looking to go back to the exact same failed agenda that got us into this financial crisis. Harry Reid stood up and said we won’t let that happen.”

Script ‘Accountable’ (TV: 30)

Last year Big Wall Street Banks sent 1,500 lobbyists to Washington.

Last week, Senator Harry Reid sent them home empty handed.

The big banks spent over $400 million dollars to keep Congress from holding them accountable for the reckless speculation that cost millions of Nevadans their homes and their jobs.

But they couldn't buy our Senator Reid.  Thanks Senator Reid, for leading the charge to pass tough, new rules to rein in Wall Street, protect homebuyers and restore economic stability.

Keep up the fight and keep holding Wall Street accountable
