"My son is being deployed to Iraq in May and it's wrong," said Debbie Evans. "It's a civil war over in Iraq war, it's not our war. Let's bring our boys home, keep them home, and protect our boundaries. They don't want us there. And I don't want my son there." *NOTE - members of the press that would like to speak with Debbie Evens should contact Brian Rothenberg of ProgressOhio.org at 614-207-3237
The powerful, pointed and at times deeply emotional radio spots are the result of an innovative online grassroots project using blogs and the power of the Internet to encourage real Americans across the nation to record their comments on the war and to turn those comments into radio ads targeting key Senators and House members. Through a free 1-800 number and state-of-the-art digital technology, Americans United for Change is collecting voices from concerned Americans who want their Representatives to vote to bring our troops - and for some, their own sons and daughters - home. As we collect more content we plan to run additional ads in more states targeting more Members, which will likely include Members in ME, NH, MN, VA, NM, PA, VA, NV, IL, and NY.Click here to see how Americans are making their voices heard on Iraq: http://americansunitedforchange.org/RadioProject
"This extraordinary and innovative project was designed to give a voice to the majority of Americans who want to see a safe and responsible end to the war in Iraq - voices that that have been largely ignored by Republican Members of Congress, like Senator George Voinovich, who continue to vote with President Bush and his failed ‘stay the course' policy of open-ended war in Iraq," said Jeremy Funk, of Americans United for Change. "It is our hope that these Members will listen to these real voices and concerns from their constituents and vote to bring our troops home safe from refereeing a bloody civil war in Iraq that has no end in sight."
Last month, as part of a several hundred thousand dollar campaign, Americans United for Change launched several TV ads across the country holding Members of Congress accountable for their votes against ending the war in Iraq, including US. Reps. Tim Johnson (IL-15), Mary Bono (CA-45), Jim Walsh (NY-25), Dean Heller (NV-02), Randy Kuhl (NY-29), and Heather Wilson (NM-01), Sen. John Sununu (R-NH), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and Senate Minority Leader and Obstructionist-in-Chief Mitch McConnell (R-KY). The more pro-Iraq war, Republican Members of Congress that can be convinced to change their own course and do the right thing by our troops, the more likely it will be for President Bush to make significant concessions on his failed ‘stay the course' policy of open-ended permanent war in Iraq.-30-
