Washington, D.C. – Americans United for Change released a new television ad in Massachusetts today calling on Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) to keep the promise he made when he won his Senate seat - “I am nobody’s senator but yours” – as legislation aimed at putting Americans back to work comes up for a key procedural vote in the Senate, expected today. All eyes are on Senator Brown as his Republican colleagues reportedly have already been conferring with lobbyists over strategy for killing the jobs bill – news that comes as no surprise as Senate Republicans have reportedly huddled with lobbyists on everything fromfinancial reform to health insurance reform to energy policy in recent months. See the script below for “Promise” which airs on Boston cable news stations beginning today.
Tom McMahon, Acting Executive Director, Americans United for Change: “When Scott Brown was elected, he promised the people of Massachusetts there would be no more closed-door meetings or back room deals. Does that standard still apply now that he’s in the Senate? Today, Senator Brown will have his chance to cast an important vote on bipartisan legislation that would put Americans back to work. We know that the Republican leadership will do everything in its power to kill this bill and has been strategizing with lobbyists behind closed doors to make this happen. Will Senator Brown buck his GOP leaders that have been huddling with lobbyists to block the bill -- or will he show his independence and vote to put the people of Massachusetts back to work?”
